Summer 2006

Changes on the PIBA Board of Directors

Ron Vitug, Vishay, has stepped down from his role of VP of Planning.  The role of planning has been revised to better reflect the scope of the position to VP of Program Development.  Jackie Kryszak, HP, was promoted to VP of Program Development earlier this year, and works closely with the events volunteer committee, executive director, and board of directors ensuring a full calendar of timely events and programs.  Ron remains on the board of directors and will be leading the Annual Regulatory Conference on October 25th.

Connie Schultz has resigned her position as VP of Finance.  She has relocated to Wisconsin to care for her parents and will be greatly missed by PIBA and many folks in the Bay Area.

This leaves the VP of Finance position open. If you are interested in joining the PIBA Board of Directors in this role, please contact Jim Bell, President of PIBA, or me.  A contact list is at the end of this newsletter.  The best fit for this position is someone that has a finance background, ideally is familiar with nonprofit finances, tax law, and Quick Books.

Program Development

We have made changes to our volunteer coordination and program development, and so far, they seem to be working quite well.  We now operate as one events committee, instead of the four separate committees. This enables our volunteers to work in areas they are directly interested in, enhance their skills, or venture out and develop skills that perhaps they do not get to use daily in their jobs, but are interested in learning more about.  This committee also includes our board of directors so that they are all more directly involved with our operations, and more visible and available to you as well.

Currently, our Programs Committee includes:

Ellen Ackerman, Green Environment

Josh Bloom, Environmental Risk Solutions

Nadia Borisiva, Kleinfelder

Maureen Conley, Roche Molecular Systems

Patty Davis, Intel

Kathleen Hamrick, Malcolm Pirnie

Eumy Hung, Spansion LLC

Gary Maier, TCA

Jill Matzke, SGI

Susie Vedantham, URS

Donna Seid, Applied Biosystem

Just this past week, Elaine Horn, 3 Phases Energy Services, has resigned from our committee, after three + years of volunteering on the Sustainable Business Practices Committee, to pursue her MBA in Michigan.  Elaine contributed greatly to the SBP committee events and will be missed by PIBA. We do wish her much success in her new pursuits!

Nadia, Maureen, Kathleen, Eumy, Bryan, Jill, and Donna, are all new volunteers to PIBA and we look forward to working together very much with them. Each volunteer brings a new and refreshing perspective, and skill, that without we could not provide the level of expertise, and deliver the programs to you, that we have been very fortunate to do.  Our volunteers help reduce expenses that might otherwise incur, and we have been able to pass that savings to you by NOT increasing dues in over five years, and keeping our events free or at low cost.

Membership

On behalf of the Board of Directors I’d like to thank the following members for their renewals the past two quarters:

Treadwell & Rollo, Inc.
Stanford University
San Francisco Airport
Poletti Reality
Green Environment
County of Santa Clara – IWM
ERM
Vishay
SAIC
Apple
Genentech, Inc.
Industrial Emergency Council
The Arnold Law Firm
Roche Palo Alto
GWF Power Systems LP

Renewal letters have recently been sent to our third quarter group.  Your dues run the operations (rent, salaries, postage, insurance, phone/internet services, etc….) of PIBA and play a very critical role in the continuation of our programs.

We have recently completed a survey amongst our membership and are following up with members, and the survey results will impact our programs, to ensure we are providing the right events, classes, workshops, seminars and conferences, to maximize your memberships benefits.  Please contact us any time you would like to provide additional feedback, that perhaps we did not request, or address on our event evaluations.

New Members

The most common question I get regarding membership is if the dues are based on a specific calendar year and prorated, or if the yearly membership begins when the first membership fee and application arrive.  It’s the later. If you join PIBA in June, then your membership is June of that year to May of the following year, and so forth.  We invoice on a quarterly basis (or as close to it given time constraints that often develop).
